My Art

As a painter, my work depicts sun-drenched southern imagery and faded articles of the past. My creative process begins with these every day, mundane, deteriorated pieces and is punctuated with fleeting moments from my surroundings, memories of my childhood and everyday life.

I draw from my experiences in visual arts, architecture, design and travel. My unique process starts with a pristine surface and I do whatever I can to mess it up, to give it texture, to violate the surface, and then I work with lines and blocks of color. Art is a direct window to one’s soul. Oftentimes when beginning a new painting I am not sure where I will end up, I simply begin and let the paintbrush guide me. Being willing to take chances and fail in order to end up with something truly worthy is the key to gratifying work.
